A tiny kitten left behind on a morning commuter train has found a happy ending — with one of the very people who first stepped in to help her.
Last month, staff discovered the kitten, then named Annie, inside a carrier on an 08:25 ScotRail service traveling between Helensburgh Central and Edinburgh Waverley.
Found Alone On The Train
Rail staff brought the kitten to Dalmuir station, where she was cared for before being placed in foster care by Cats Protection.
The story quickly captured hearts across Scotland — and beyond.
Marie Fox, a ticket inspector who helped care for the kitten that day, said she never expected what would happen next.
“When we first found Annie on the train, I never imagined she’d end up coming home with me,” she said.
A New Name — And A Fresh Start
After spending a month thriving in foster care, the kitten was ready for adoption. Meanwhile, Fox had recently lost her own cat and felt the timing was right.
She officially adopted the kitten and renamed her Daisy.
“We’ve renamed her Daisy because it feels like a fresh start,” Fox said. “I lost my own cat last August, so adopting Daisy feels like perfect timing. She’s already brought so much joy into our house.”
Now, Daisy has settled comfortably into her new home — lounging on sofas, curling up in her hanging cat bed and even batting at toy trains.
An Outpouring Of Support
According to Cats Protection’s Glasgow branch, the response to Daisy’s story was overwhelming. The charity received countless adoption offers and nearly £5,000 in donations through a JustGiving page.
Branch coordinator Elaine Brennan described it as a “wonderful full-circle moment.”
“While we have given Annie all the love and care possible, nothing compares to a loving, permanent home,” she said. “We truly believe we’ve found the perfect home with Marie.”
A Journey With A Happy Ending
Daisy’s story began with uncertainty and abandonment. However, thanks to attentive railway staff, dedicated foster carers and a compassionate ticket inspector, it ended in love and stability.
“She’s had quite the journey already,” Fox said. “But this is just the beginning.”
And for Daisy, that beginning now includes a forever family — and a home filled with warmth, comfort and plenty of playtime.
