Now she’s thriving
This past October, a group of men in Baja California, Mexico, heard a desperate, high-pitched cry coming from the bottom of a deep canal. When they looked down, they were stunned to see a Rottweiler lying on her side, too weak to move.

The sound seemed like one final attempt to get someoneβs attention.
One of the men shared a video of the dog online, and it quickly reached The Cantu Foundation, a local dog rescue. Rescue staff rushed to the canal and soon learned how the dog had ended up there.

According to witnesses, someone had left a box near the edge of the canal. The dog had been inside it. The box was placed so close to the drop that even a small movement could cause it to tip or break. When the dog shifted, she fell straight down into the canal.
By the time rescuers arrived, she was completely drained. She couldnβt lift her head, stand or try to climb out. She had no energy left.
A team of people worked together using ropes to carefully lift her from the canal. Once she was finally out, they rushed her to a veterinarian, expecting the worst.

To everyoneβs surprise, the Rottweiler, later named Flor, did not have any major medical issues. She was severely exhausted and clearly neglected, but her body was still fighting.
In the care of The Cantu Foundation, Flor slowly began to recover. After three days, she started walking again. As her strength returned, her true personality began to appear.
The weak dog who could barely move transformed into a playful, spirited girl.

Once Flor was stable, she was moved to a foster home in San Diego, California. Her foster mom, Kajsa, quickly discovered that Flor loves chasing soccer balls and playing with water from a hose.
Flor is affectionate, silly and full of joy. Despite everything she went through, she still loves people and wants attention, head scratches and someone to play ball with her.
Now, The Cantu Foundation is searching for Florβs forever family. After surviving such a frightening ordeal, she is ready for a home where she will be loved, protected and never abandoned again.
