Police in Perth and Kinross have initiated an investigation following the discovery of the remains of an osprey, a protected species.

The osprey is believed to have been nesting at Loch of the Lowes, near Dunkeld, which is in close proximity to where the bird was found.

Authorities are collaborating with partner agencies to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation is in its preliminary stages, and it remains unclear whether any criminal activity was involved.

Inspector James Longden emphasized that it is illegal to harm or kill any protected species. He urged the local community to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation.

“Information from the local community could prove vital,” Inspector Longden stated. “It is important that we speak to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area or who may possess information that could assist our inquiry.”

Individuals with relevant information have been encouraged to contact Police Scotland via the non-emergency line.
