“It’s not every day that that happens.”
Every morning, Andy Ivan Mills heads outside with his dogs, Ozzy and Daisy, for their usual walk. But last Wednesday turned out to be anything but ordinary.
It was Mills’ 44th birthday, but even that wasn’t what made the morning unforgettable.
As Mills and his two dogs made their way down the driveway, they suddenly heard quick footsteps coming up from behind. Moments later, a wild rabbit came racing past them at full speed.
Before Mills could fully understand what was happening, another animal appeared behind the rabbit.
It was a fox.

Mills’ home security camera captured the surprising chase as it unfolded. The rabbit darted toward Mills and his dogs, and the fox followed close behind. But as soon as the fox noticed the people and dogs standing there, she quickly changed her mind and stopped the pursuit.
Whether the rabbit had planned it or simply acted on instinct, his escape route worked perfectly. By running toward Ozzy and Daisy, he managed to shake off the fox and get away safely.
Mills was shocked by the whole scene. He couldn’t tell if the rabbit had purposely used the dogs as protection or if he was just running in panic and happened to choose the right direction. Either way, the plan worked.
Later, the camera even showed the rabbit returning, proving he had survived the chase.
What started as a normal birthday walk quickly became a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife moment. Mills had expected a quiet morning with his dogs, but instead, he found himself and his pups unexpectedly helping a rabbit escape from a fox.
