Louis Grice has rescued countless stray dogs from the streets of Bulgaria. He’s seen severe neglect before. But when he stumbled upon a filthy, motionless animal chained up outside, even he was stunned.
“She looked like a sheep to me,” Grice said.
At first glance, the animal’s fur was so thick and matted that her shape was almost unrecognizable. But when Grice got closer, he realized the truth — she wasn’t a sheep at all. She was a dog who had likely been neglected for years.
He named her Tina.

Without hesitation, Grice freed her from her chains and rushed her to a veterinarian.
Years of Neglect Revealed
At the clinic, the full extent of Tina’s suffering became clear. Beneath the tangled fur, vets discovered a double fracture in her front leg — an injury that had gone untreated for an unknown amount of time.
She needed immediate surgery.

Thankfully, the procedure was successful.
Tina was also shaved down to remove the heavy, painful matting. Once freed from the fur that had weighed her down for so long, a completely different dog emerged.
Underneath was a tiny, gentle-faced pup with soft eyes and an unmistakable sweetness.
Still Trusting, Still Loving
Despite everything she endured, Tina’s spirit remained intact.
“She’s such a sweet and innocent little dog who craves human affection,” Grice said.
Now in foster care with Grice, Tina is recovering from surgery and adjusting to a life filled with warmth and kindness. She leans into touch. She seeks closeness. She wants nothing more than to feel safe.
Once she’s fully healed, she’ll be ready for a permanent home — one that can offer the love she’s always deserved.
For anyone with room in their heart, Tina may be waiting.
