“He was sitting there quietly …”

Kassidy M. and her partner returned home from vacation late on a Sunday night and went straight to bed, exhausted from their travels. The next morning, they discovered an unexpected visitor waiting for them in their backyard.

‘When we woke up on our first day back and went outside, we found him quietly sitting in the corner of our yard,’ Kassidy shared. The couple was puzzled about how long the dog had been there or where he had come from, as none of their neighbors seemed to know. Despite the mystery of his arrival, he appeared to be quite content with his choice of spot.

‘It didn’t take long to win him over,’ Kassidy said. ‘As dog lovers, we showered him with affection, and he eagerly accepted it. We set up cozy dog beds and blankets for him, and he immediately settled in and relaxed.

“The dog, affectionately named Mr. Big Baby due to his gentle nature, was in poor condition when he was found. Covered in cuts and scars, it appeared he had been a victim of dog-fighting. As the days passed, the couple also noticed that he seemed unwell.

The vet prescribed antibiotics for Mr. Big, and his transformation was remarkable. Before the medication, he was calm, docile, and somewhat withdrawn. Once he began the treatment, he began to blossom.

‘It was like we had a completely new dog,’ Kassidy said. ‘He craved attention and always wanted to be near us. He barked for the first time! We thought he was a silent dog until the fifth day. He started playing with toys, running outside with us, wagging his tail constantly, and giving kisses to everyone he met.’

Mr. Big arrived at the couple’s backyard feeling defeated and ready to give up. But their love and care gave him a new lease on life.

Recognizing that Mr. Big needed a special home, the couple found him the perfect family. Now, he’s thriving in his new environment, and his rescuers are inspired to help more dogs in need.

‘This experience has made us want to foster more dogs in the future to help alleviate the pressure on dog rescues and find these wonderful animals their forever homes,’ Kassidy said. ‘We feel so fortunate that he found us.'”
