“[They] didn’t appreciate us talking about them.”

Forestry workers in Poland recently put up a new warning sign near a pond in the Lubliniec Forest District, hoping to alert visitors to an unusual hazard along a popular trail.

The route is frequently used by walkers and cyclists, but humans aren’t the only ones active around the water.

Local beavers have been digging and building near the shoreline, leaving holes and damaged areas that could be dangerous for people passing through.

To make visitors aware of the problem, workers installed a wooden sign carrying a simple warning:

β€œWarning! Damage caused by beavers.”

It turned out to be an unintentionally perfect prediction of what would happen next.

Because beavers are legally protected in Poland, forestry officials are careful not to disturb or harm them. The sign was simply meant to help people avoid the holes and other damage the animals had created near the trail.

But apparently, the beavers had their own opinion about the new addition to the landscape.

Not long after the wooden post was installed, workers returned to discover that it had been completely gnawed through.

The likely culprits were the exact animals named on the sign.

Rather than being frustrated, the forestry team found the situation hilarious.

Adam Siekiera, one of the workers, joked that perhaps the beavers simply enjoyed the taste of the wooden post β€” or maybe they somehow objected to having their activities publicly advertised.

Either way, their work was impressively thorough.

The animals even left the warning sign itself lying beside the freshly chewed stump.

The result made the message on the fallen sign far more convincing than workers probably ever intended. Anyone passing by could now see firsthand just how capable the local beavers were of altering their surroundings.

Forestry officials plan to reinstall the warning, but this time they have a different strategy.

Instead of giving the beavers another wooden post
