“I feel like I need to carve an entire pumpkin village now” 🎃
Amanda Lynn Ramirez expected her family’s pumpkin-carving day to end with a festive Halloween display. What she didn’t expect was for one of their jack-o’-lanterns to become an actual home for a backyard visitor.
Ramirez and her family had decided to decorate their yard with pumpkins inspired by miniature fairy gardens. Wanting her own pumpkin to match the whimsical theme, she transformed it into a tiny house.
After cleaning out the inside, she carefully carved two matching window patterns into the sides and added a rounded doorway in the front. The finished pumpkin looked like a miniature cottage, especially once it was placed outside beside the pumpkins carved by her husband and daughter.

At first, everything looked exactly as Ramirez had imagined. But when the family returned outside later that evening to light the pumpkins, they discovered something unexpected inside her creation.
A small, bumpy toad had already claimed the pumpkin cottage as its new temporary residence.
Ramirez recalled that her husband and daughter were preparing to light the pumpkin when they suddenly noticed the tiny animal sitting inside. The surprise guest had apparently wasted no time making himself comfortable.

Rather than immediately hopping away, the toad remained peacefully inside while the family admired him.
The miniature pumpkin house seemed almost perfectly designed for its new tenant. Pumpkin seeds hanging from the ceiling resembled a tiny chandelier, while the small tealight on the floor looked more like a piece of miniature furniture than a candle.
Once Ramirez realized the toad planned to stay, she decided not to light the candle. Protecting her unexpected guest was far more important than illuminating the jack-o’-lantern.
The moment made the fairy-tale pumpkin display feel even more magical. A decoration created to resemble a tiny woodland home had unexpectedly become exactly that.
