Four one-day-old ducklings were recently saved from a precarious situation after being discovered trapped underground in a BT cable culvert. The heartwarming rescue unfolded unexpectedly on the B1188 between Dunston and Metheringham in Lincolnshire, where members of the Lincolnshire Police Rural Crime Action Team (RCAT) were conducting a routine search for an injured deer on the evening of June 12.

During their search along the road, the RCAT officers came across a damaged cable and noticed faint sounds coming from below. Upon investigation, they found four tiny ducklings stuck in water several feet underground. The situation was dire, as the ducklings were clearly unable to free themselves.

Quickly springing into action, the RCAT officers, with the assistance of two local residents and a nearby gamekeeper, carefully extracted the ducklings from their watery confinement. The rescuers worked diligently to ensure the safety of the fragile ducklings, who were just one day old and in desperate need of help.

RCAT expressed that without intervention, the ducklings would undoubtedly have perished. The swift and coordinated effort of the team and the community members proved crucial in saving their lives.

Following their rescue, the ducklings were promptly transferred into the care of a dedicated carer from Wild Things Rescue based in Sleaford. This ensured that the ducklings would receive the specialized care and nurturing they needed to recover from their ordeal and thrive.

The heartening rescue serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and compassion towards all creatures, no matter how small, and highlights the positive impact that collaborative efforts can have in safeguarding wildlife in unexpected situations.
