She couldn’t help but laugh.
Noeul, a golden retriever who absolutely loves swimming, spent nearly five hours playing in a poolβfrom 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Her owner, Younga Song, noticed that the usual sounds of splashing had suddenly stopped and became worried.
When she looked outside, all she could see was Noeul’s head sticking out of the water, barely moving. Thinking something might be wrong, she rushed over to check.

Instead, she found that Noeul had simply figured out a clever way to take a break without getting out of the pool.
Rather than continuously paddling, Noeul was:
- Standing on the bottom of the pool.
- Resting her front legs and chest against the pool’s edge.
- Keeping only her head above the water.
- Relaxing as if she were lounging in a spa.
Her owner couldn’t help but laugh at how comfortable and content she looked.

According to Song, Noeul has loved water ever since she was a puppy.
“Noeul is a ‘water-retriever.’ She wants to jump in the moment she sees water, and she refuses to come out.”
After her little floating rest, pool time eventually endedβbut only temporarily. Given her passion for swimming, it wasn’t long before she was ready to jump back in again.
It’s a sweet reminder of just how much some dogsβespecially many Golden Retrieversβlove the water. While not every dog enjoys swimming, retriever breeds were originally developed to retrieve waterfowl, so many of them naturally take to water and can happily spend hours swimming, as long as they’re supervised and given plenty of opportunities to rest, drink fresh water, and avoid overheating.
