After a long day at work in mid-June, Keish Ridner returned home expecting to relax. Instead, she found a frightened puppy tied to a tree near her house in Detroit.
Security footage from a Ring camera revealed that the puppy had been left outside in the rain for nearly five hours. As soon as Ridner approached, the little dog excitedly tried to run toward her, clearly desperate for human kindness.
Sadly, this wasn’t the first time Ridner had encountered an abandoned dog. Having rescued several homeless animals before, she immediately untied the puppy and brought her inside without hesitation.
The puppy had a condition called cherry eye, in which the gland of the third eyelid protrudes, creating a red, swollen mass in the corner of the eye. Ridner believes this medical condition may have been the reason someone abandoned her.
Despite everything she had endured, the puppy’s spirit remained bright. Ridner already shared her home with eight animals, and the newcomer wasted no time making friends. She happily ran around the yard, played with her new companions, and quickly settled into her temporary home.
After taking the puppy to the veterinarian for a full examination, Ridner scheduled surgery to correct her cherry eye. While waiting for the procedure, the puppy continued to flourish in a safe environment filled with love and attention.
“Ms. Girl has been learning and playing so much while we wait for her surgery date,” Ridner shared on TikTok.
Ridner hasn’t officially decided whether she will adopt the puppy permanently, but she’s leaning in that direction. Regardless of the final decision, she is committed to ensuring the dog is healthy, cared for, and ready for a happy future.
What began as an ordinary trip home from work turned into another life-saving rescue. Thanks to Ridner’s quick action and compassion, a puppy that had been abandoned in the rain now has warmth, medical care, friends to play with, and the chance for the loving life every dog deserves.
