It may well have saved a life.

Mike Conley, owner of Coastal Junk Solutions in Summerville, South Carolina, is used to being paid to haul away unwanted items. But during one recent job, the situation turned around β€” and Conley ended up paying instead.

That small payment may have saved a puppy’s life.

After finishing a cleanup at a customer’s house, Conley noticed a puppy in the yard across the street. The little dog was by himself and appeared to be limping. Concerned, Conley grabbed some food from his truck and tried to get closer so he could help.

While he was feeding the puppy and trying to understand what was going on, someone claiming to own the dog approached him. The person offered to sell the injured puppy for $20.

Conley didn’t hesitate. For just $20, he took the puppy away from the situation and brought him somewhere safe.

Later, Conley described it as the best $20 he had ever spent.

Before taking the puppy home, Conley contacted local animal control. Officials told him they could take the dog in and make sure he received medical attention for his injured leg.

Conley then followed through to make sure the puppy was placed in safe hands.

The puppy has since been moved into a medical foster home, where he is recovering from his injury. Although Conley has not received many updates yet, he hopes that once the puppy is healthy and ready, he may be able to adopt him and give him a permanent home with his family.
