“I knew from the moment she came over, she wasn’t feral …”
Sam was driving home on a cold April evening when something moving inside a small car dealership caught her eye. The place was already closed for the night — the gate was locked, the showroom lights were off and the employees had gone home.
Still, as an experienced animal rescuer, Sam had a strong feeling that something wasn’t right.
A Cat Appears Behind The Fence
She pulled over and called out toward the lot. Moments later, a small white-and-tan cat appeared behind the chain-link fence, crying for help.
Sam quickly grabbed a can of cat food from her car and used it to encourage the cat to come closer. Within minutes, the hungry little cat squeezed underneath the fence and ran straight toward her.
Too Friendly To Be Feral
The cat was thin, dirty and clearly starving. She ate every bit of food as if she hadn’t had a proper meal in days.
Sam had helped many stray cats before, but this one seemed different right away. The cat was too trusting, too gentle and too eager for human attention to seem truly feral.
A Safe Ride To The Vet
Sam knew she couldn’t leave the cat outside in the cold. After the cat finished eating, Sam gently picked her up and tried to place her into a carrier.
The cat didn’t mind being held, but she refused to go inside the crate. So Sam came up with another plan — she placed her in the passenger seat instead. To Sam’s surprise, the cat stayed calm the entire ride.
Sam named her Adeline and drove her straight to the vet.
A Clue About Her Past
At the clinic, veterinarians discovered that Adeline had already been spayed. That made Sam believe even more strongly that Adeline had once belonged to someone and had likely been abandoned.
Thankfully, aside from being underweight, Adeline was in fairly good health.
Finding The Right Home
Sam decided to foster Adeline while searching for a permanent family. The sweet cat quickly adjusted to life indoors and settled in with Sam’s three cats.
Although Sam adored her, she knew Adeline would do best in a quieter home where she could receive lots of attention and peace.
Eventually, the perfect couple came to meet Adeline — and they instantly knew she was meant to be part of their family.
A New Life Full Of Love
Adeline, who had once been alone in a dark, cold car dealership, is now safe in a loving forever home. She spends her days being spoiled by her new parents and enjoying the comfort she always deserved.
For Sam, seeing Adeline happy is the best reward. She loves receiving updates and knowing that another rescued animal has found her perfect ending.
