Kitten With Enormous Eyes Rescued From California Shelter Finds Loving Home

Earlier this month, a tiny stray kitten in Ventura County, California stole the spotlight after sneaking into an animal shelter — and charming the internet with his unusually large, expressive eyes.

A Surprise Visitor at the Shelter

Staff at Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) were closing up for the evening when they spotted a small kitten hiding in the shelter’s laundry room.

“We are located in a bit of an industrial area,” explained Jules Hooper, VCAS marketing specialist. “Sometimes, community cats wander onto our property and hide out.”

Though shy, the kitten couldn’t resist the food staff set out for him. By the next morning, he was safely caught in a humane trap and sent to the veterinary team for evaluation.

Meet Owl: The Kitten With Big Eyes

The 4-month-old kitten, whom staff named Owl, quickly became an internet sensation when his adoption photo was uploaded to the VCAS website.

Fans immediately flooded the shelter with questions: “Are his eyes really that big?”

To prove they hadn’t edited the photo, VCAS posted additional pictures and even a video of Owl on Instagram.

Health Check and Adoption

The vet team examined Owl thoroughly. While his eyes are noticeably larger than average, they found no underlying health problems. His vision is normal, and the condition doesn’t cause him discomfort.

“[His eyes] may need treatment down the line,” Hooper noted. “But for now he is a happy little kitty.”

Soon after his story went viral, a VCAS supporter named Lilliana saw Owl’s post and “fell in love immediately.” She arrived early at the shelter and adopted him the same day.

A New Life as Bobble

Renamed Bobble, the kitten quickly began settling into his new home. Despite being shy at first, he warmed up quickly to his adopter’s affection and started exploring his surroundings.

“Bobble is starting to come out of his shell every day,” Lilliana said. “At night he’s playful and cheeky and loves introducing himself and interacting with our other cats.”

Bobble’s new family says he purrs constantly and has already found favorite nap spots.

From Viral Fame to Family Love

Although some fans hoped Bobble would get his own Instagram page, his adopter is focused on giving him a safe, loving home.

For now, the once-homeless kitten who wandered into a shelter is enjoying peace, playtime, and plenty of cuddles.
