She was waiting nearby.
When a family heard what sounded like the faint cries of baby animals coming from inside their ceiling, they weren’t sure what to make of it. Instead of investigating on their own, they made the wise decision to call in the experts — Gates Wildlife.
Specializing in the safe and humane removal of animals from human spaces, Gates Wildlife is well-known for helping wildlife get back where they belong. Confident in their mission, the team arrived ready to assist the uninvited guests who had made themselves at home overhead.
After a quick assessment, the rescuers noticed a warm patch in the ceiling — a strong clue. Carefully, they cut into the area, and sure enough, tucked inside was a wriggling pile of baby raccoons.
“They’re tiny guys,” one of the rescuers remarked in a video later posted to The Dodo.
Nearby, the mother raccoon could be heard chittering nervously, clearly aware something was happening to her babies. The team worked swiftly and gently, determined to get the little ones out safely and back into their mother’s care as quickly as possible.
Once all the babies had been rescued from the ceiling, the next step was reunion. Thankfully, the mama raccoon hadn’t gone far — she was lingering nearby, anxiously waiting. To guide her, the rescuers placed one of her babies on the ground. Within moments, she approached and scooped up her kit with careful paws.
One by one, she returned to gather the rest of her babies, carrying them off to a safer, more natural home.
The rescuers stood back and watched her disappear into the night, relieved and grateful that the story had ended exactly as it should — with a family back together, safe and sound.
