“We all thought that she was going to pass away.”
The Inspiring Rescue of Marianthi, the White Horse of Euboea
For years, a gentle white horse named Marianthi lived peacefully on the Greek island of Euboea, cared for by her devoted guardian. Her life changed dramatically when her caretaker passed away, leaving Marianthi alone and vulnerable.
Abandoned and Struggling
Without someone to care for her, the elderly horse grew weak and sick. Eventually, she collapsed in her field, unable to move. Days passed as she lay in the grass, helplessly watching people walk by.

Her condition was critical, and it seemed as though hope had vanished.
A Timely Rescue
Just when all seemed lost, a compassionate woman noticed Marianthi’s suffering and immediately called for help. Rescuers from Athens Happy House, an animal sanctuary, rushed to the island to bring her to safety.
Upon seeing Marianthi, the rescue team was shocked. She was described as “a living skeleton,” so weak that her survival was uncertain.

The Road to Recovery
The team carefully lifted Marianthi from the field and transported her to the sanctuary. At first, they feared the worst. But they were determined to give her a fighting chance.
- Frequent Care: Marianthi was fed every two hours.
- Supportive Equipment: A special device was installed in her stable to help her stand and relieve pressure on her hooves.
- Hands-On Assistance: Rescuers gently lifted her when needed, providing constant support.
Within two months, Marianthi began standing and eating on her own. Slowly, she regained her strength and took her first steps in a long time.
Emotional Milestones

Her progress amazed everyone at the sanctuary. “We all started crying,” said Nektarios, a team member. “It felt like winning the lottery.”
Marianthi’s recovery was not only physical but emotional. With every step and bite, she regained her confidence and her spirit.
A New Chapter in Life
Today, Marianthi continues to thrive at the sanctuary. She enjoys peaceful walks in the prairie and spends time with other rescued animals, living a life full of care, love, and companionship.
Her resilience has inspired everyone who has witnessed her journey. Nektarios shared:
“It has been my absolute honour and pleasure to be part of Marianthi’s journey back to health. Her will to live is extraordinary.”
