For five years, Korra had a family who promised to be her forever home. Sadly, her allergy issues became too difficult for them to manage, and eventually, she was brought to a shelter.

When Korra arrived at Lancaster Animal Care Center, she was frightened and unsure. Wearing pajamas, she curled up in her kennel, staring through the bars, seemingly waiting for her family to return.

β€œShe’s been very fearful since the day she arrived,” said Evelyn Garces, a volunteer at the shelter. β€œShe barked defensively from the back of her kennel with wide, anxious eyes. I spent some time sitting with her, and when she finally approached, she started shaking. It broke my heart, but I knew I had to advocate for her.”

Once volunteers removed her pajamas, it became clear that Korra was underweight and hadn’t been receiving proper nutrition. The team cleaned her up, put her on a healthy diet, and committed to helping her regain strength and confidence.

Garces describes Korra as a work in progress, but one with remarkable intelligence and potential. The first step toward her transformation is getting her out of the shelter so she can truly flourish.

β€œShe would thrive in a calm, patient home that allows slow introductions to other dogs and gives her the space she needs to feel safe,” Garces explained. β€œSince Korra was surrendered due to allergies, it’s also crucial that her adopter can maintain a strict diet for her.”

Sadly, Korra’s fearfulness puts her at risk in the shelter, making urgent adoption or rescue essential if she’s to have a chance at a happy future.

Right now, she’s timid and cautious, needing time to trust. But with the right people β€” patient, loving, and understanding β€” Korra has every chance to blossom into a joyful, wiggly dog.

β€œI know she has the potential to be that happy, playful pup someday,” Garces said.
