Earlier this week, Washington State Patrol (WSP) dispatchers received several urgent reports about a dangerous situation unfolding on a Pierce County interstate. Drivers had spotted a tiny kitten stranded near the center divider, crouched just inches away from fast-moving traffic.

Two patrol officers quickly arrived at the scene to help.

Their body camera footage shows the dramatic rescue β€” and the kitten’s sweet moment of relief as he curled up safely in an officer’s lap during the ride back to safety.

Afterward, the little feline was taken to a nearby animal hospital for a checkup. But that wasn’t the end of his journey.

No one knows how the kitten ended up alone on the highway, but what’s certain is that his luck turned around that day.

According to WSP, one of the troopers decided to adopt the kitten and give him a home.

The compassion and bravery shown by the responding officers have drawn widespread praise online. One commenter wrote:

β€œOur troopers, sheriffs, and police officers put themselves in danger every day on our highways. It’s inspiring to see that they value every life β€” even a kitten’s β€” while keeping others safe. Thank you!”

Thankfully, this tiny traveler’s story ended happily.

As WSP humorously summed it up: β€œJust another day of purr-tecting and serving.”
