They couldn’t make it much longer on their own 💔
On a cold roadside in Iowa, a heartbreaking scene sat unnoticed — until one person stopped.
Inside a cardboard box were newborn kittens, pressed together for warmth.
On the outside, just four words:
“kittens”
“free”
“please take”

A Dangerous Situation
These babies had been left completely alone.
They faced:
- Freezing temperatures
- Hunger and dehydration
- Risk of predators or passing cars
They had no way to survive on their own.
A Life-Saving Call
Thankfully, a Good Samaritan saw the box and called King’s Harvest Pet Rescue.
Within a short time, the kittens were safe.
Rescuers were shocked someone could leave such fragile lives behind like that.
The Help They Truly Needed
Newborn kittens require constant care — especially feeding every few hours.
So the team reached out to Quad City Animal Welfare Center, where something incredible was waiting:
A nursing foster mama cat.
She accepted the kittens as her own — giving them warmth, milk and comfort.
A Bittersweet Outcome

Despite everyone’s efforts, one kitten was too weak to survive.
But the other two — now named O’Rourke and Hennessy — began to grow stronger every day.
They quickly stole the hearts of everyone caring for them.
Why This Story Matters
Rescuers hope this moment sends an important message:
- Spay and neuter pets
- Ask for help instead of abandoning animals
- Reach out early — support is available
“Situations like this are preventable,” the shelter shared.
A Second Chance
Because one person stopped and cared enough to act, two tiny lives were saved.
Now, O’Rourke and Hennessy have a real chance —
to grow, to thrive, and one day…
to be loved the way they always deserved. 🐾💛
