It was a case of déjà vu …
Four Puppies Abandoned in the Rain
Early one morning, a local passing by the RSPCA Doncaster and Rotherham District Branch noticed something unusual. A small pet carrier sat outside the front gate in the pouring rain. Alarmed, the passerby immediately alerted the shelter staff.

Inside the carrier, four tiny puppies huddled together, wet, cold, and cramped. Staff rushed the pups inside, cleaned them up, and began examining them. Almost immediately, the employees realized the puppies looked familiar.
A Repeat Incident
Only weeks before, seven puppies had been dumped in the same spot under similar conditions. The shelter staff quickly concluded that the new litter and the previous one likely came from the same family, just from different litters.

“It is so sad to think that someone has just discarded these pups,” said Daniel Cartwright, branch manager at the RSPCA Doncaster and Rotherham District Branch. “We do think they are from the same family due to how they look and the circumstances in which they were found.”
Rescued Just in Time
Somebody had abandoned a group of puppies outside the shelter gate in the middle of a storm—and then repeated the act several weeks later.

“Fortunately, we don’t think they had been there too long,” Cartwright said. “Our staff bathed them and are providing lots of TLC to help them recover.”
The four new puppies, about 8 weeks old, have been named Sunny, Rain, Drizzle, and Puddle. The previous litter of seven has already been adopted, and staff hope these four will soon find loving homes as well.
“They are due for a vet check, and we will continue to care for them until they are ready for adoption, probably by the end of this week,” Cartwright said.
Shelter Seeks Answers
The RSPCA is concerned about whoever keeps abandoning vulnerable puppies outside their gate. Staff hope to track down the person responsible to ensure the puppies’ safety and learn about their medical history.
“We are keen to speak to the person who left these puppies so we can find out about their medical history,” Cartwright said. “We would urge them to get in touch with us.”
In the meantime, the shelter continues to provide love, care, and attention, ensuring Sunny, Rain, Drizzle, and Puddle grow healthy and strong until they can find their forever homes.
