On a remote beach in Western Scotland, a tiny, sandy seal pup found himself stranded and alone. Only a few days old and too frail to fend for himself, the orphaned seal was in desperate need of help.
A woman walking her dog came across the vulnerable pup and immediately knew she had to act. She contacted British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) without delay. βThe lady reached out to BDMLR as soon as she got home, sending photos of the pup to our rescue coordinator,β BDMLR reported.
While waiting for the rescue team to arrive, the woman kept a watchful eye on the seal, careful to maintain a safe distance and hoping the pupβs mother might return. βWith our nearest available medic two and a half hours away, we had time to ensure the pup wasnβt being cared for by its mother,β BDMLR explained.
When the rescuers arrived, they transported the seal, now named Blenny, to a local vet for urgent care. After stabilizing his condition, Blenny was transferred to the Scottish SPCA National Wildlife Centre, where experts will provide him with the continued care and affection he needs.
Blennyβs recovery is still underway, but it’s evident that he is in the right place. Thanks to the compassion of dedicated animal lovers, this young seal has been given a precious second chance.
