A Surprising Visitor
On a quiet evening in Los Angeles, California, homeowner Maribel Colindres received an unexpected alert from her security camera. Intrigued, she checked the footage and was taken aback to see a peculiar, fluffy animal scampering up her driveway. “She looked like [an] Ewok,” wrote Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, on Facebook.
The Mysterious Fluffball
The adorable creature disappeared under Colindres’ car but returned just after sunrise. Once again, the cameras captured movement, revealing that a little dog had been visiting her front yard. Concerned, Colindres inquired with her neighbors about the dog, hoping someone would recognize her and claim her as their own.
A Heartbreaking Backstory
What Colindres discovered was a tragic tale. “A whole month ago, neighbors saw her get dumped,” Hall revealed. “She was so scared, [spending] lonely, long nights hiding under cars. Even tiny, little Ewok lookalikes get dumped…” Devastated for the pup, Colindres refused to let her continue living on the streets, but the frightened dog was elusive, evading any attempts at rescue.
The Challenge of Rescue
“Maribel tried so hard to help her, but [the dog] would run so fast,” Hall noted. With a consistent schedule in place, Colindres reached out to Hall for assistance in trapping the pup. Hall arrived just in time to set up a trap before the dog’s usual evening visit.
A Successful Capture
“Literally, at 6:40 [p.m.], there she came, right on time,” Hall described. “We held our breath, and this tiny girl just walked right into my trap. It was absolutely amazing.” Colindres had also set up a feeding station on her driveway, monitoring the dog’s movements carefully. “Like clockwork, she would show up twice a day … between 6-7 p.m.,” Hall recounted.
A New Name and a Fresh Start
With the pup finally captured, Hall took a closer look and decided to give her a name inspired by her sci-fi resemblance. “Even little Ewoks can be a princess,” Hall wrote in a Facebook update. “So, we shall name her Princess Leia.”
Hall then transported Princess Leia to Camino Pet Hospital, where she received a much-needed bath and haircut. Within hours, she looked completely transformed. “She got a complete makeover,” Hall exclaimed. “Princess style.”
Thriving in Foster Care
Princess Leia passed her health exams with flying colors and quickly moved to a loving foster home, where she has been thriving ever since. “She is the silliest girl ever and sooo sweet,” Hall shared with The Dodo. “She will run and do the zoomies and then get so tired and sleep under her foster’s foot.”
A Bright Future Ahead
While Princess Leia is still searching for her forever family, she is making the most of her temporary home. Grateful for the love and care she finally received, she is flourishing. “The poor baby was so dirty and had so many stickers in her fur, but look at her now,” Hall reflected. “[There’s] a complete sparkle in her eyes.”
