A trio of new capybaras has made their debut at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm in Wraxall, North Somerset. These South American native rodents are adjusting well to their new surroundings, having arrived from Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park in Wherstead, near Ipswich. According to the zookeepers, the three males immediately took to the pool, showing positive signs of settling in.
“They’re doing really well so far,” said one of the keepers. “Sticking close as a group, they’ve begun to explore their new environment, which is fantastic to see.”
These capybaras are joining over 100 other species, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. Known as the world’s largest rodents, capybaras are famous for their friendly, calm nature, allowing them to coexist harmoniously with other species. As semi-aquatic animals, they prefer living near water sources in groups, playing a vital role in their ecosystem by regulating plant growth in their habitats.
