He captured the encounter on video.
A peaceful hike through Montana’s Glacier National Park took an unexpected turn when a mother walking with her two children spotted something unusual standing directly ahead on the trail.
Not knowing what to expect, she stopped and watched the mysterious figure from a distance. Then the stranger looked back at her and broke the silence with two simple words:
“Holy crap.”
The unexpected speaker was not a wild animal, but fellow hiker Jordan Bouldin. The mother and her children, meanwhile, were actually a family of mountain goats making their way along the same trail.
Bouldin managed to capture the amusing encounter on video, showing just how surprising an ordinary walk in the wilderness can become.
Bouldin captured the encounter on video:
Giving a wild family room to pass
Once Bouldin realized that the mother goat and her young ones might feel uncomfortable with his presence, he decided not to risk getting any closer.
Instead, he carefully retraced his steps and moved up onto a nearby hillside, allowing the animals plenty of space to continue along the trail without feeling threatened.
The small detour turned out to be worthwhile. From his new position, Bouldin could watch the fluffy young goats make their way past him and continue safely through the landscape.
Although the encounter was brief, it offered a memorable reminder that sharing a trail with wildlife sometimes means stepping aside and letting the animals set the pace.

Glacier’s remarkable mountain climbers
Mountain goats are among the most recognizable animals in Glacier National Park, famous for their ability to navigate steep, rocky landscapes that would challenge many other species.
Their specially adapted hooves provide excellent grip on uneven surfaces, while their powerful bodies and muscular forequarters help them climb seemingly impossible slopes.
According to the National Park Service, mountain goats can tackle inclines of 60 degrees or even steeper, moving across rugged mountain terrain with remarkable confidence.
But Bouldin’s encounter revealed another side of these impressive climbers: despite their extraordinary abilities, mountain goats are perfectly happy to use an ordinary hiking trail when it suits them.
And sometimes, the most memorable wildlife encounters happen when people simply give nature the right of way.
