A Remarkable Life Spanning Three Decades
In Greater Manchester, England, a tortoiseshell cat named Millie has reached an extraordinary milestone.
Her owner, Leslie Greenhough, says she was born in 1995, which would make her 31 years old. Millie originally belonged to Leslie’s late wife, who welcomed her into the family when she was only three months old.
More than three decades later, the elderly cat is still enjoying a peaceful life filled with comfort, affection and plenty of her favorite foods.
A Birthday Worth Celebrating
Earlier this year, Leslie and his family marked Millie’s birthday with a special celebration.
The guest of honor was treated to a generous bowl of chicken, along with the attention and cuddles she has grown accustomed to receiving.
Leslie, now 71, describes Millie as a determined little survivor and feels incredibly proud that she has lived for so many years.
Her Unusual Daily Routine
Leslie believes Millie’s longevity may be connected to the care she receives at home.
For around a decade, she has reportedly drunk only bottled mineral water. Her meals are equally luxurious, often including salmon, prawns, chicken and tuna, with plenty of treats offered in between.
Her days are calm and predictable, usually involving long stretches of rest and quiet cuddles on the sofa.

How Bottled Water Became Her Favorite
Millie’s unusual drinking habit began when repair work was carried out on the water pipes near the family’s home.
Because Leslie was considered vulnerable, bottled spring water was regularly delivered to his doorstep during the disruption. He began sharing it with Millie.
When the household water supply was restored, discolored water initially came from the taps. Leslie decided to continue using the bottled water instead, and Millie has been drinking it ever since.

A Shy and Gentle Personality
As she has grown older, Millie has become increasingly cautious and reserved.
Leslie believes her quiet nature may have helped her avoid stress throughout her life. Over the years, her personality has softened, and she is now described as relaxed, peaceful and content around the house.
He often thinks about how amazed his late wife would be to see Millie still doing so well.
Extra Care During Hot Weather
Millie’s age means she requires a little more attention, particularly during periods of extreme heat.
To keep her comfortable, Leslie uses two fans and adds ice cubes to her water bowl. These small adjustments help the elderly cat remain cool and relaxed when temperatures rise.
The Challenge of Proving Her Age
Leslie hopes Millie might one day be officially recognized as one of the world’s oldest living cats.
However, confirming her age has proven difficult. The person who could have provided the clearest evidence was his late wife, and the only surviving record Leslie has is an old photograph believed to have been taken in 1995.
Without stronger documentation, Millie’s age may never receive formal verification.
A Quiet Life and an Extraordinary Legacy
Whether or not she enters the record books, Millie’s story remains remarkable.
She has lived through more than three decades, grown from a tiny kitten into a treasured companion and remained beside her family through years of change.
Now, surrounded by familiar comforts, gentle care and the people who love her, Millie continues to enjoy every peaceful day—one cuddle and one bowl of chicken at a time.
