βHe is definitely smart as a whip!β
Buckwheat may finish his dinner at home, but that doesnβt mean he considers the evening meal complete.
This clever dog has figured out a very effective way to ask for seconds.
A few years ago, Buckwheatβs mom, Stephanie, moved with her husband into a home right next door to her in-laws. Soon after, she noticed Buckwheat had developed a strange habit after dinner.
Once he finished eating, he would pick up his empty bowl and carry it outside.
At first, Stephanie wasnβt sure what he was doing. But after watching him walk up the path toward her in-lawsβ house several times, she decided to follow him.

Thatβs when she discovered Buckwheatβs little trick.
He was taking his bowl next door to ask for another meal.
Every time he arrived, someone would reward his effort with a second helping. Stephanieβs mother-in-law especially loved spoiling him and was happy to give him the extra attention β and extra food.
Sadly, Stephanieβs mother-in-law recently passed away. But Buckwheatβs routine has not ended. Stephanieβs father-in-law has continued the sweet tradition, giving Buckwheat an extra portion whenever he shows up with his bowl.
Even though there is already a bowl waiting for him at the in-lawsβ house, Buckwheat still prefers to bring one along. After eating, he carries one bowl back home like his mission is complete.
Buckwheat gets plenty of exercise, but his successful search for second dinners has left him with a little extra weight. Still, his family canβt help but laugh at how clever and determined he is.
After all, Buckwheat didnβt just hope for more food β he created an entire routine to make sure he got it.
