When Cassidy Lovestein heard a squeaky dog toy going off in her yard, she was confused.
All three of her dogs were inside.
So… who was playing with it?
🤔 Something Didn’t Add Up
The sound was unmistakable:
👉 squeak… squeak… squeak…
But when Cassidy checked:
- Dogs? Inside
- Kids? Inside
- Toy? Definitely outside
Naturally, she grabbed her camera to investigate.
🐿️ The Unexpected Culprit
Out in the yard, she found:
👉 A squirrel
👉 Having the time of his life
He was:
- Rolling around in the grass
- Chewing and squeaking the toy
- Playing like it was made just for him
“I was delighted to see him having a blast,” Cassidy said.
😂 A Backyard Regular
This wasn’t just any squirrel.
The playful little guy, nicknamed Foxy (for his orange ears), has been living in Cassidy’s yard for years.
So really… he was just enjoying what he considers his space.
🥎 A New Favorite Toy
Seeing how much Foxy loved the squeaky toy, Cassidy made a decision:
👉 He could keep it.
No complaints from the dogs either — they’ve got plenty of toys to spare.
🐶 Dogs + Squirrels = Peaceful Coexistence
Surprisingly, Cassidy’s dogs:
- Don’t chase the squirrels
- Watch them calmly from the porch
- Even bark to keep cats away (basically squirrel security 😄)
“We love our squirrels,” she said.
💛 A Little Moment Of Joy
It’s such a small thing:

A backyard
But it turned into something unexpectedly funny and wholesome.

Sometimes the best moments aren’t planned.
