They were all panting from the heat 🥵
On a scorching day in Maryland, something alarming unfolded outside Anne Arundel County Animal Services.
A man pulled up, unloaded three sealed plastic bins, and drove away.
Inside?
Cats and kittens.
A Dangerous Situation
A nearby visitor quickly realized something was wrong.
Though the bins had small air holes, the animals inside were:
- Panting heavily
- Overheating
- Clearly in distress
In that heat, they didn’t have much time.
Shelter Staff Jump Into Action
The moment staff realized what was happening, they rushed outside.
They:
- Opened the bins
- Removed eight cats and kittens
- Placed them in wire enclosures
- Set up fans to cool them down
“I think they were already too warm,” said shelter director Claudia Roll.
Meet Mama Mazda 🚗
A note taped to one bin revealed more about the group:
- The gray cat, named Mazda, was their mom
- Some kittens were just 3 months old
- Others were older, born months apart
Despite concerns, vets confirmed Mazda wasn’t pregnant again and were able to safely spay her.
From Fear To Comfort
At first, the kittens were confused and overwhelmed.
But with care, they quickly began to recover:
- They were examined by vets
- Vaccinated
- Given proper food, water, and comfort
Staff even named them after cars — just like their mom 🏎️
A Perfect Ending
What started as a heartbreaking abandonment turned into something incredible:

✨ Some went home in pairs (like Miata and Corvette)
✨ And Mama Mazda found a loving home too
She’s now with someone who, as the shelter said, will “treat her like a queen.”
