A zoo in West Sussex has welcomed two new ravens to take the place of one of its most iconic animals.
Terry, a raven known for entertaining guests at Crawley’s Tilgate Zoo with his colorful language, passed away several years ago. He had become a standout attraction thanks to his unexpected swearing.
Now, the zoo has introduced a new pair: Foghorn, a female, and Corbie, a male.
Chris Mullins, a local councillor and Crawley District Council’s cabinet member for wellbeing, told BBC Radio Sussex that Terry would be fondly remembered as “a talking terror”.
“There was a real sense something was missing,” he said. “We needed a character who stood out — something a little different.”
While Foghorn is reportedly quite vocal, neither of the new arrivals has picked up any bad language yet.
Both birds were hand-reared and sourced from a private collection. Mullins emphasized that the zoo is committed to conservation and avoids taking animals from the wild, instead participating in exchange programmes with other facilities.
