A woman in Canada has formed an extraordinary bond with a group of crows after helping rescue one of their own.
Leah Wilson first caught the birds’ attention when she noticed a young crow trapped in the roof gutter of a nearby house. The bird appeared injured, and Wilson knew she couldn’t simply walk away.
Luckily, a fire truck happened to be nearby. Wilson approached the firefighters and jokingly asked if they felt like saving a crow that day. They agreed to help and used their ladder to reach the trapped bird.
Once the crow was freed, Wilson took over from there. She brought the injured bird to a wildlife veterinarian so he could get the care he needed.
During the rescue, the crow held tightly onto her finger — a moment Wilson would never forget. At the time, she had no idea the bird and his flock wouldn’t forget her either.
Sometime later, Wilson was walking her dog when a crow suddenly flew down and dropped a small bundle of feathers at her feet.
It seemed to be a gift.
That was only the beginning. After that first offering, Wilson began receiving more little presents from the neighborhood crows, as if they were thanking her for helping their family member.
Now, whenever Wilson goes out for a walk, the crows often gather around and follow her. Rather than feeling frightened, Wilson sees it as something special and joyful.
The crow she rescued still visits, too. She can recognize him by the band on his leg, which was placed there when he was released back into the wild.
Wilson, who is Métis, says her upbringing taught her the importance of respecting and connecting with nature. Now, thanks to one act of kindness, she has become part of an unexpected flock.
To the crows, she is not a stranger anymore — she is one of their own.
