She did not expect that at all.
What began as a peaceful walk in Tampa, Florida, quickly turned into a much more memorable wildlife encounter for one local resident.
Cristina was out on one of her usual daily walks when she noticed a large turtle slowly making his way along the sidewalk.
The turtle was so charming that she pulled out her phone and started recording.
Then she looked to her left.
An Unexpected Visitor Appeared
Walking down the same sidewalk was a much larger animal — an alligator.
Cristina was immediately caught off guard as the reptile continued moving in her direction.
The calm moment she had been enjoying with the turtle suddenly became much more tense.
She Slowly Backed Away
Rather than making any sudden movements, Cristina began carefully stepping backward while keeping an eye on the approaching alligator.
Fortunately, the animal did not continue toward her for long.
After moving along the sidewalk, the alligator changed direction and made its way toward a nearby pond.
Cristina later admitted that the encounter had seriously startled her.
“This freaked me out so much,” she wrote on TikTok.
She Had Seen the Alligator Before — Just Not Like This
Cristina was not completely unfamiliar with the gator.
She had spotted it in the nearby pond on previous occasions, usually from a comfortable distance.
Seeing the animal in the water was one thing.
Finding it casually walking along the same sidewalk she was using was something entirely different.
The unexpected change of scenery made the encounter especially surprising.
Charlie the Turtle Was Just Fine
Despite all the excitement, the turtle Cristina had originally stopped to admire came through the encounter safely.
She affectionately refers to him as Charlie.
While Cristina’s walk turned out very differently from what she had expected, both she and Charlie were unharmed.
