At First Ladies Farm and Sanctuary in Riverview, Florida, the staff dedicates every day to helping vulnerable cats and domestic birds find safe, loving homes. Their work is usually predictable — feedings, medical care, and greeting the constant flow of supply deliveries. But every now and then, a rescue situation appears out of nowhere. That’s exactly what happened when Claudia E. White, the sanctuary’s director and vice president, spotted a stack of packages near the organization’s front gate.
The boxes, a mix of Amazon and Chewy shipments, looked just like the sanctuary’s usual deliveries. Nothing about them seemed unusual, so White simply loaded everything into the back of her car before driving down the long driveway. She had no idea that one of those packages held something far more fragile than pet supplies.

She left the boxes in her vehicle for the rest of the day and overnight. The following morning, she brought several rescue cats with her to a vet appointment, dropped them off, and headed back toward the sanctuary. But on her return trip, something unexpected happened — a soft, high-pitched meow drifted from the back of the car.
White froze for a moment. All of the cats were at the clinic… so who was making that sound?
Concerned, she immediately pulled over, stepped out, and opened the trunk. As she sifted through the packages, one box caught her eye. Small holes had been poked into the top — something none of the other deliveries had. A bad feeling hit her, and when she gently lifted the flaps, she found herself staring into the wide, frightened eyes of a tiny black kitten.

The little one had been left inside the cardboard box with absolutely nothing — no blanket, no towel, no food or water. Just a scared baby cat trapped in the dark. White later shared the moment on Facebook, writing, “There [wasn’t] even a blanket or towel, let alone food or water, for him. He’s a baby!”
White rushed the kitten back to the sanctuary, where the team immediately stepped in. He was weak, suffering from an upper respiratory infection and flea-related anemia. For weeks, the staff monitored him closely as he fought to get stronger. It wasn’t easy — the kitten had clearly been through a lot — but day by day, he began to heal.

Now, the once-abandoned kitten is steadily recovering, gaining strength and confidence as he prepares for the next chapter of his life: finding a forever family. The team is relieved that his dangerous ordeal didn’t have a tragic ending.
“It was very dangerous, but he lived to tell the tale,” White told The Dodo. “This little stowaway will get a great home!”
