When Tiffany, a dedicated dog rescuer in Atlanta, received a call about a dog left on a local walking trail, she rushed to investigate. Upon arrival, someone informed her that the dog wasn’t abandoned, but belonged to an unhoused individual.
Undeterred, Tiffany went home to prepare a note for the dog’s owner and assembled a small care package with food for both the dog and his owner. Returning to the trail, she found the dog, named Simon, with his owner.
Tiffany learned that Simon and his owner had recently lost their home and were in a transitional period. Despite the initial impression of abandonment, it was clear that Simon was deeply loved.
Given the extreme heat in Atlanta, Tiffany decided to help by having Simon shaved to keep him cooler. She also arranged for them to stay in a pet-friendly hotel and shared their story online to raise funds for their immediate needs.
“Please hold off on judgmental comments; this could easily be you and your dog,” Tiffany posted on TikTok. “You never really know.”
Thanks to the support from the community, Tiffany quickly raised enough money to take Simon to the vet for a check-up and to treat a sore paw. Aside from that, Simon was in good health and enjoyed making new friends.
By taking the time to understand the situation and offering support, Tiffany was able to assist Simon and his owner during this challenging period. She continued to provide them with supplies and ensured they had a place to stay while they sought more stable housing. Most importantly, they could remain together.
“Simon and his owner are in much better spirits today,” Tiffany shared.
