โ€œShe is very sweet.”

A family of bunnies has made Michelle Owensโ€™ backyard in Kansas their new home this year, and no one has been more interested in them than her dog, Carley Mae.

The rabbits usually come out from their hiding place early in the morning and again in the evening. Carley Mae loves watching them from the window, and when she gets the chance, she sometimes runs after them in the yard.

But even though she was fascinated by the bunnies, Carley Mae had never actually gotten close to one โ€” until something unexpected happened.

While Owens was away from home, a friend came over to check on the house and let Carley Mae outside. Soon after, the friend noticed that Carley Mae was paying close attention to something in the pool.

When she looked closer, she saw a tiny bunny struggling in the water. Somehow, the little rabbit had fallen in and couldnโ€™t climb back out.

Owensโ€™ friend quickly began looking for the pool scoop to help rescue him, but Carley Mae didnโ€™t wait.

The dog carefully followed the bunny along the edge of the pool. Then, in a gentle and surprising move, she lifted the little animal out of the water herself.

Once the bunny was safe, he quickly ran off into the yard.

When Owens returned home, she checked her camera footage and saw exactly what Carley Mae had done. She was amazed to learn that her dog had saved one of the very animals she usually loved to watch and chase.

Thankfully, the bunny survived the scary moment and is still living in the backyard.

Carley Mae was rewarded like the hero she is โ€” with extra praise, a special treat and a well-earned belly rub.
