When Flareon arrived at Sacramento SPCA from an overcrowded local shelter, the tiny kitten was in terrible condition. At only 3 and a half weeks old, he weighed just half a pound and had burns covering his little body.
Veterinarians quickly realized he needed surgery, but because he was so small and fragile, they werenβt sure if he would survive the procedure.

Thankfully, Flareon pulled through.
At first, the team believed he might need another surgery to remove one of his legs. For the time being, they placed him in a foster home so he could rest, heal and grow stronger.
Everyone expected his recovery to be long and difficult, but Flareon had other ideas.

Almost right away, the tiny kitten began improving. As he healed, his playful personality came bursting through. He became energetic, curious and full of life, acting more like a wild little kitten than one recovering from serious injuries.
Then came the best news: his injured leg healed well enough that it did not need to be amputated after all.

The shelter team was thrilled. Not only had Flareon survived, but he was recovering better than anyone had expected.
Over time, nearly all signs of his burns disappeared. His orange fur grew in, and he became a fluffy, bright-eyed kitten. The only small reminder of what he had been through was a little pink spot near his belly.

As Flareon grew stronger, his foster family noticed he had a bold, feisty side. To give him a friend and help him burn off all that kitten energy, the shelter sent another kitten named Umbreon to join him.
The two quickly became inseparable. They played, explored and kept each other company, forming such a sweet bond that the shelter decided they should be adopted together.

Recently, Flareon and Umbreon found a forever home as a pair.
When Flareon first arrived, his future was uncertain. But the tiny kitten fought through every challenge, surprised everyone with his strength and ended up with exactly what he deserved β a safe home, a best friend and a happy life ahead.
