“Rescuing kittens isn’t always a straightforward task, and Stormy’s case was no exception.

Just last week, Somerset Regional Animal Shelter received a distress call regarding a kitten trapped in a storm drain, its cries echoing for aid. Without hesitation, the shelter’s dedicated animal control officers, Jesse Ostrowski and Karen Fisch, sprang into action.”

Ostrowski and Fisch exhausted every effort to catch the kitten and extract her from the drain. Despite hours of persistent attempts, their endeavors proved futile.

In a last-ditch effort, they resorted to setting a trap within the drain, hopeful that the kitten would be ensnared overnight. Unfortunately, luck was not on their side.

“The following morning, as I went to inspect the traps, there she was, perched on top, her gaze fixed upon me,” Ostrowski recounted.

“After attempting to lure the clever kitten with nets down the storm drain, they persisted for two more hours before finally managing to fish her out.

She was cold and shaking but finally safe.

“It’s truly a relief that she was rescued in time,” Nina Bielli, volunteer with Friends of Somerset Regional Animal Shelter, expressed. “I have no idea how she would have gotten out on her own.”

“Presently, Stormy finds solace and safety within the shelter, gradually recuperating from her harrowing experience. Delving into her personality, shelter staff have unearthed a delightful surprise amidst her misadventures: an incredibly affectionate disposition.

“Her heart melts at the touch of a meal, revels in gentle forehead caresses, and finds bliss in the tender strokes of her tiny ears,” Ostrowski shared, reflecting on Stormy’s endearing traits. “She’s truly a gem, radiating sweetness in every purr and playful glance.”
