Last month, Long Island wildlife rehabilitator Karenlynn Stracher received a distressing call. Anthony, a manager at a local Ace Hardware warehouse, had found a baby squirrel near the building all alone. Anthony told Stracher that he’d looked everywhere for the squirrel’s family, but he couldn’t find them.

Anthony arranged for the baby to be transported to Stracher’s rehab. Stracher told Anthony to keep looking — she knew that there’s rarely just one orphaned squirrel. It was very likely his family was nearby.

Newly energized, Anthony continued his search. Lo and behold, he eventually looked up into an air vent and saw three worried faces peeking out. The squirrel’s siblings hadn’t forgotten about their brother after all.

Thrilled, Anthony contacted Stracher.“You were right!” Anthony excitedly said in a video Stracher took at the scene. “You said there’d be more!”Stracher took the babies back to her rehab, where they could grow safely. As soon as the babies noticed their brother, they immediately piled on top of him, so happy to see each other.Stracher was delighted to see the family together again.

“It was a joyous reunion for these five beautiful babies!” she told us.
