“We named her Treasure, as she most certainly was treated like trash.”
A woman in a Texas neighborhood was going about her day when something outside a recently vacated home caught her attention.
A pile of discarded belongings had been left near the house, apparently abandoned by the family who had moved away.
Standing beside the trash was a tiny dog.
The pup stayed close to the pile as though she were waiting for someone to return. It appeared that everything else had been left behind — and, heartbreakingly, so had she.
The dog was later named Treasure.
Treasure looked like she had been struggling for some time. Her coat was in poor condition, and there were signs that she had not received the care she needed.
Concerned for the little dog, the woman contacted rescuers for help.
Tzu Zoo Rescue quickly stepped in.
The rescue team chose the name Treasure because, although she had seemingly been discarded, they wanted her to know just how valuable she really was.
Paula, one of the rescue’s volunteers, went to the property to pick her up.
Treasure was understandably unsure at first. She was gentle when approached but remained timid, clearly uncertain about what was happening.

The little dog was taken directly to a veterinarian, where she was diagnosed with flea dermatitis. The condition had caused irritation and significant hair loss.
Once she received treatment, Paula brought Treasure home as a foster.
That was when her transformation truly began.

In her foster home, Treasure quickly began settling into a very different kind of life.
She discovered comfortable places to sleep, regular meals and people who wanted her around.
Paula estimated that Treasure was only about a year old, and despite everything she had experienced, she remained incredibly affectionate.
She especially loved being close to people.
Because of what had happened to her, Treasure sometimes became anxious when her foster family left the house. After being abandoned once, being separated from the people she trusted understandably made her nervous.
But day by day, she started becoming more secure.
Her fur began growing back, her health improved and her personality started to shine through.
Most importantly, Treasure was finally learning that people could leave the room — and still come back.
Her foster family is now giving her the patience and affection she had been missing, helping her gain confidence while she prepares for the next chapter of her life.
Not long ago, Treasure was standing beside a pile of unwanted belongings, apparently waiting for a family that wasn’t coming back.
Now, she has a safe place to sleep, people looking out for her and the chance to find a permanent family who will never leave her behind again.
