Stray Dog Finds a Forever Home — Then Brings Home a Kitten Who Needs One Too
When Meagan King glanced out at her covered porch one day, she did a double take. Sitting quietly outside was a skinny, unfamiliar dog — just staring back at her.
At first, she assumed he belonged to a neighbor and would eventually wander back home. But the next morning, he was still there. And when he was still waiting after she returned from work, King knew he needed help.
“I realized this dog is pretty emaciated and he needed our help,” she explained in a video for The Dodo.
She began asking around, double- and triple-checking that he didn’t belong to anyone nearby. Once she was certain he was truly a stray, King made a decision that would change both their lives: she adopted him.
They named him Roman — and soon, his shy demeanor gave way to a goofy, playful side that melted their hearts. Roman quickly became a cherished member of the family.
But Roman wasn’t done writing his story.
From Rescued to Rescuer
“One day, I turned around, and here he comes walking back up the driveway with a little kitten,” King recalled.
No one knows where Roman found the kitten, but just like him, she clearly needed help. Roman, having experienced love and kindness for the first time, seemed determined to share it — and brought the tiny feline straight to the people who had saved him.
At first, King wasn’t sure they could keep her. But just like with Roman, the kitten quickly won over their hearts. They let her come and go as she pleased, but more often than not, she chose to stay — especially near Roman, her new best friend.
A Full Circle of Love
Roman had once been a stray dog fighting to survive. But after finding the perfect family, he didn’t hesitate to open his heart to someone else in need.
And now, thanks to his loving instinct, two lost animals — a dog and a kitten — are home.
Sometimes, the ones we rescue end up rescuing others. 🐾
