Little Girl Spots Dog on Euthanasia List—Then Gets the Surprise of a Lifetime
A few months ago in Houston, Texas, a mom and daughter were scrolling through Facebook when they stumbled upon a photo of a tiny, mangy puppy named Scratchy. Despite his rough appearance, one thing was clear: he was absolutely adorable.
As they read more, they discovered something heartbreaking — Scratchy was on the euthanasia list at his shelter due to a severe skin condition. The little girl was devastated. Without hesitation, she made up her mind: she would do everything she could to save him.
Her mom, Michelle, immediately sprang into action. She started searching online, trying to track down Scratchy’s location. But days went by with no luck. All the while, her daughter kept asking again and again: “What happened to Scratchy?” Worry consumed her as she feared the worst.
A Miracle — and a Surprise
Then, a miracle happened. Michelle discovered that Scratchy had been rescued and taken in by Three Little Pitties Rescue. He was safe — and finally getting the medical care he so desperately needed.
Michelle didn’t hesitate. She volunteered to foster Scratchy and brought him home. But she didn’t tell her daughter — she had something special in mind.
That afternoon, when her daughter came home from school, Scratchy was there waiting for her. Still wearing her backpack, she dropped to her knees in disbelief, tears pouring down her face.
“She cared so deeply all week about a little mangy dog,” Three Little Pitties Rescue shared on Instagram. “And her sense of relief getting to hold him…”
As she opened Scratchy’s crate, the little pup immediately began licking the tears from her face.
“Pure, deep, love at first sight,” the rescue wrote.
A Life Worth Celebrating
Since that emotional reunion, Michelle and her family have been fostering Scratchy with all the love and care he deserves. He’s thriving now — chasing balls, playing tug-of-war, and soaking up cuddles from everyone around him.
“This puppy is being treated like a king in his foster home while he heals up,” the rescue added. “He has kids to tend to his every need. And he is being celebrated for his life and who he is!”
Thanks to the relentless compassion of a little girl and her determined mom, Scratchy got a second chance at life. And in return, he’s showing the world what unconditional love really looks like.
“This little guy was once out of time,” the rescue wrote. “But now he’s safe — and stealing hearts every day.”
