“Beyond the shelter, Cherry radiates with brightness.”

Cherry arrived at Clermont County Animal Shelter in September, and her appearance matched her name perfectly. Her entire petite frame was a vibrant red hue due to a severe case of mange, and she was understandably frightened of her unfamiliar surroundings. It took some time for the shelter staff and volunteers to help her overcome her initial fear, but once they did, she blossomed into an incredible little dog.

“Megan Dashley, a shelter volunteer, recounted, ‘She was quite challenging to coax out of her kennel due to her fear. Most volunteers had to carry her outside, but once away from the noise, she truly came alive. It was at the park bench on that first day that I discovered her unwavering love for balls. Basketballs, weighted medicine balls, tennis balls β€” you name it, Cherry adores them all. Despite her initial apprehension, she gradually began to open up and form bonds with numerous volunteers. She eagerly engaged in roughhousing and playful romps during group play sessions, truly becoming a beacon of joy.’

After some time, Cherry found an amazing foster family to care for her, and everyone was optimistic that it would become her permanent home. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances arose, and Cherry found herself back at the shelter. This time, however, she’s struggling to cope.

‘She’s not acting like herself,’ volunteers wrote on Facebook. ‘She’s uneasy and lacking confidence.'”

Poor Cherry has been trembling whenever she’s in her kennel. She’s bewildered and simply yearns for a family to love. Despite being adopted and returned a few times, and having moved through several foster homes during her time at the shelter, what she desperately needs now is the stability of a forever home.

β€œOutside of the shelter, Cherry shines so bright,” Dashley said. β€œShe smiles from ear to ear when she is comfortable, happy, and at peace.”

Cherry is seeking an active family who will match her energy and enjoy running around with her to her heart’s content. She dreams of having a yard to romp in or, at the very least, nearby outdoor spaces for exciting adventures. Cherry would thrive in a home with a laid-back younger dog who can be her companion.

Everyone at the shelter is cheering Cherry on with all their might. Their sole wish is for her to find a sense of security and affection, knowing that the perfect family for her is waiting out there somewhere.

β€œThis girl is a national treasure and a hidden gem,” Dashley said. β€œSomeone would be incredibly fortunate to bask in her presence and receive the abundance of love she has to offer.”
