Biggie was discovered abandoned seven months ago and has since shuffled between a few different shelters. Presently, he calls the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter home, where his devoted caregivers are tirelessly striving to secure him a loving family. Despite his playful personality and gentle nature, he repeatedly goes unnoticed, simply because some people are intimidated by his appearance.

Biggie sports cropped ears, likely a remnant from his past, which some find unsettling. Additionally, he’s a large dog, further contributing to his imposing image. However, beneath his tough exterior lies the heart of a gentle giant yearning for affection. Biggie’s greatest desire is to find a family to call his own, but sadly, his hope is waning.

“He used to eagerly approach the front of the kennel to greet everyone, but now he simply lies on his bed,” shared Laura Selvaggio Burban, director of the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, with The Dodo. “We have staff and volunteers who take the dogs on day trips, and while Biggie enjoys these outings, he becomes despondent upon returning to his kennel, appearing visibly melancholic.”

It’s evident that poor Biggie is experiencing a decline in spirits after waiting so long for a home, yet everyone passing through the shelter seems to have a reason to overlook him.

“Someone visited the shelter recently in search of a cheerful pit bull,” the shelter shared on Facebook. “We enthusiastically recommended Biggie! However, they mentioned they had already seen him but found his ears intimidating.” The shelter continued, “Biggie continues to be overlooked… ‘He’s too large,’ ‘I’m not fond of his color,’ and the excuses keep coming. Biggie remains unaware that he’s perceived as intimidating… All he desires is to be loved.”

Biggie simply longs for a home where he can relax and express his true self. He has interacted positively with both dogs and cats in the past, but he would need to undergo meet-and-greets with any potential animal companions to ensure compatibility. Biggie doesn’t have many demands for his future family — he simply wishes to be accepted for who he is.

“He truly needs the opportunity to just enjoy being a dog,” Selvaggio Burban emphasized.

The ideal home for Biggie is out there somewhere, and his friends at the shelter won’t rest until they’ve found it.
