When a cat named Chance recently arrived at the MSPCA-Angell adoption center in Salem, Massachusetts, the staff immediately fell for him. He was undeniably charming, affectionate, and impossible not to adore.
But as they spent more time with him, they noticed something else that made him even more special. Chance’s front legs were bent at nearly a 90-degree angle, giving him an appearance that some lovingly compared to tiny T-rex arms.
Far from making him any less lovable, that detail only made the shelter team cherish him more.
Staff soon learned that Chance had been born this way. His unusual front limbs were not the result of an injury, and, most importantly, they did not cause him any pain. This was simply the body Chance had always known, and he had adapted to it naturally.

And while some might assume his bent arms would slow him down, Chance had other plans.
Although he occasionally needs a little help getting onto furniture, he moves through the world with remarkable ease. To everyone’s surprise, he was even able to climb up and down the shelter’s tall cat trees, showing off an agility that went far beyond what anyone expected.
With his sweet personality and unique charm, the staff were certain Chance would find a home right away. He was affectionate, relaxed, and full of character — the kind of cat who seemed impossible to overlook.
But as the days passed, no adoption applications came in.
Hoping to help him reach the right person, the shelter shared a video of Chance on social media. That small act changed everything.

An animal lover named Katrina came across the post and instantly felt drawn to him. She has always had a soft spot for animals who stand out in their own beautiful way, and after telling her partner, Gregg, about Chance, the two decided without hesitation that he belonged with them.
Now Chance is settling into a lively and loving home filled with new companions, including two dogs named Junebug and Broccoli, two rats named Mr. Frodo and Gandalf, and another cat named Walter. Step by step, he has been getting to know his new family and adjusting wonderfully.

For Gregg and Katrina, it already feels as though Chance has always been part of their lives.
As they have gotten to know him better, they have discovered his favorite forms of affection: ear scratches and butt scratches, which he happily soaks up whenever offered. After waiting for the right family to notice him, Chance has finally found a home where he is celebrated exactly as he is.
And now, surrounded by love, comfort, and endless affection, he will get all the scratches his heart could ever want.
