“I was delighted to see him absolutely having a blast.”
When the dogs are away, the squirrels will play — just ask Cassidy Lovestein.
Recently, Cassidy was at home with her kids and three dogs when she heard a familiar squeaking noise coming from outside. It sounded exactly like one of her dogs’ toys.
But all three dogs were inside.

Curious, Cassidy grabbed her camera and went to see what was going on.
Her suspicion was right — and the reality was even cuter than she imagined.
Out in the yard, happily rolling around in the grass with the squeaky toy, was a playful little squirrel having the time of his life.
“I was delighted to see him having such a blast,” Cassidy told The Dodo. “The karate kick at the end makes me laugh every time.”
The squirrel, it turns out, is no stranger to Cassidy.
He’s been living in her yard for years alongside his fluffy-tailed family.
“We call him Foxy because of his orange ears,” she said.
Seeing how much Foxy loved the toy, Cassidy decided he could keep it.
Luckily, her dogs didn’t mind sharing.
They have plenty of toys of their own — and they seem to enjoy watching their backyard visitors just as much as Cassidy does.
“They don’t chase them,” she said. “The dogs just sit on the porch and watch. Sometimes they’ll bark to keep the neighborhood cats away. We love our squirrels.”
For Foxy, it was just a fun afternoon.
For Cassidy, it was a sweet reminder that sometimes the best entertainment is happening right outside your window.
