β€œIt wasn’t fast or easy.”

When Elmer arrived at the Humane Society of North Texas, the tiny kitten was in terrible condition. He could hardly see and was coated almost completely, from his ears to the tip of his tail, in thick industrial adhesive. Unable to eat, drink, or even clean himself, he was growing weaker by the moment.

Rescuers do not know exactly how Elmer ended up stuck in a bucket of glue, but they are deeply thankful that the person who found him chose to get help right away. By the time he reached the shelter, he was dangerously dehydrated and likely would not have survived much longer on his own.

The rescue team immediately began the delicate process of removing the adhesive. Using canola oil, they worked slowly and carefully through Elmer’s fur, massaging his body for hours while trying to comfort him and keep him calm.

The shelter later explained that the process was neither quick nor easy, but it was the kind of patient, steady care Elmer desperately needed.

After many hours of effort, rescuers were finally able to remove all of the glue from his gray coat. Once the adhesive was gone, Elmer looked like himself again β€” a soft, fluffy kitten instead of the helpless little animal they had first received.

Now Elmer is recovering in foster care, where he is regaining his strength and beginning to heal. When he is fully ready, he will start looking for a permanent home.

Even with more recovery ahead of him, especially after such an intense glue removal process, Elmer is already showing his sweet nature. The shelter says he loves staying close to anyone offering affection, warmth, and comfort.

His rescuers have been especially touched by how loving he remains despite everything he has gone through. One shelter representative joked that after receiving what amounted to a seven-hour massage, Elmer now seems to expect a spa day every single day.

The team is thrilled to see him doing so well and says his story is a reminder of what dedicated rescue work can accomplish. With quick action, skill, and compassion, a moment of crisis can become the beginning of a new life.
