After 1,000 Days, Bobby the Greyhound Finally Finds His Forever Home πΎ
Some rescue dogs wait far too long for the love they deserve. Bobby, a gentle greyhound, spent over 1,000 days at the Woodside Animal Welfare Trust in Plymouth before finally finding a family who saw his heart.
A Long Wait
Bobby arrived at the sanctuary in February 2023, after a life as an ex-racing dog. For nearly three years, he watched hundreds of other rescue dogs come and go while he remained in his kennel, repeatedly overlooked.
Staff worried he might spend yet another year waiting for someone to choose him.
βHis colour, age, and a common misperception that greyhounds need lots of exercise all worked against him,β the trust explained. βPlus, he wasnβt keen on sharing his toys.β
A Perfect Match
Everything changed when Peter Hart, an experienced dog owner, saw a photo of Bobby. He knew immediately he wanted to meet him.
βWhen I found out heβd been here for three years, I couldnβt believe it,β Peter said. βThatβs a long time for a dog to be in kennels.β
Their first meeting was magical. Sitting together in Bobbyβs kennel, it took a few minutes for the shy greyhound to settleβbut then he leapt onto the couch and flumped against Peter, as if saying, this is home.
A New Beginning
Finally, Bobby left the sanctuary behind and stepped into a life filled with love, comfort, and attention. Senior manager Debbie Haynes described the moment as the happiest news the staff could have wished for before the New Year.
βWe are over-the-moon,β she said. βWeβve been waiting such a long time for Bobby to find a wonderful home, and we are so delighted that he finally has.β
After more than 1,064 days of waiting, Bobbyβs patience and gentle heart have been rewarded. His story is a reminder that every dog has someone out there who will see them, love them, and make them feel at home.
