After 1,000 Days, Bobby the Greyhound Finally Finds His Forever Home 🐾

Some rescue dogs wait far too long for the love they deserve. Bobby, a gentle greyhound, spent over 1,000 days at the Woodside Animal Welfare Trust in Plymouth before finally finding a family who saw his heart.

A Long Wait

Bobby arrived at the sanctuary in February 2023, after a life as an ex-racing dog. For nearly three years, he watched hundreds of other rescue dogs come and go while he remained in his kennel, repeatedly overlooked.

Staff worried he might spend yet another year waiting for someone to choose him.

β€œHis colour, age, and a common misperception that greyhounds need lots of exercise all worked against him,” the trust explained. β€œPlus, he wasn’t keen on sharing his toys.”

A Perfect Match

Everything changed when Peter Hart, an experienced dog owner, saw a photo of Bobby. He knew immediately he wanted to meet him.

β€œWhen I found out he’d been here for three years, I couldn’t believe it,” Peter said. β€œThat’s a long time for a dog to be in kennels.”

Their first meeting was magical. Sitting together in Bobby’s kennel, it took a few minutes for the shy greyhound to settleβ€”but then he leapt onto the couch and flumped against Peter, as if saying, this is home.

A New Beginning

Finally, Bobby left the sanctuary behind and stepped into a life filled with love, comfort, and attention. Senior manager Debbie Haynes described the moment as the happiest news the staff could have wished for before the New Year.

β€œWe are over-the-moon,” she said. β€œWe’ve been waiting such a long time for Bobby to find a wonderful home, and we are so delighted that he finally has.”

After more than 1,064 days of waiting, Bobby’s patience and gentle heart have been rewarded. His story is a reminder that every dog has someone out there who will see them, love them, and make them feel at home.
