Her transformation is astounding.
Recently, the team at the Wyandotte Animal Shelter in Michigan welcomed a dog whose condition shocked them – Pixie, as she’s named, arrived with fur so matted and overgrown that her movement was severely restricted.
Looking at Pixie, it was hard to imagine the adorable dog hidden beneath the tangles.
The shelter staff revealed that Pixie was surrendered by her owner, who sadly neglected her care, leading to her distressing condition. However, his difficult decision to surrender her was ultimately what Pixie needed most.
“He struggled to let her go but trusted us to find her the life she deserved,” the shelter shared.
And so, Pixie’s journey to a new life began – starting with a much-needed haircut.
The shelter staff urgently contacted The Downriver Grooming Co. for an emergency grooming session to liberate Pixie from her tangled confinement.
“They responded immediately to our plea, accommodating Pixie within minutes of our call. For three hours, they tirelessly worked to free her from that matted fur,” the shelter recounted.
After the grooming session, the true Pixie emerged.
She was completely transformed, unrecognizable from her former self.
“The little girl weighed only 5.5 pounds, but the matted fur made her appear twice her size,” the shelter shared, noting that despite her ordeal beneath the overgrown coat, Pixie was remarkably healthy.
Pixie’s world had undoubtedly changed for the better – and little did she know, it was about to get even brighter.
Within days of her transformation, thanks to the kindness of those who had helped her, Pixie received the second chance she so desperately needed.
“Pixie found her forever home,” a spokesperson for the Wyandotte Animal Shelter joyfully announced. “Her new family reports that she is thriving and doing exceptionally well in her new environment.”
