A heartwarming incident unfolded recently in Oceanside, New York, when a mother duck and her ducklings found themselves in a perilous situation in a hospital parking lot. The ducklings, ten in total, accidentally slipped through a sewer grate, disappearing into the darkness below.
Quick to respond, hospital nurses sprang into action. They removed the sewer cover and ingeniously used a Jeep’s chain as a safety line to rescue six of the stranded ducklings from the drain.
Realizing they needed additional help for the remaining three ducklings, the nurses promptly called the local fire department. With expert assistance, they successfully retrieved the last three babies from the sewer.
For the night, the rescued ducklings found refuge with a caring hospital staff member, beginning their recovery from the frightening ordeal.
Subsequently, the duck family was relocated to Animal Nation, a specialized wildlife rehabilitation facility, where they received the care and support needed for their well-being and growth.
Reflecting on the rescue, the hospital staff member expressed admiration for the nurses’ bravery and compassion.
“I was truly amazed by their courage,” they shared. “Their dedication to helping not only humans but also wildlife shows what extraordinary individuals they are. It’s wonderful to see such caring in action!”
