“This was the most confidently I’ve seen her behave in the nine days since she’s been out of the shelter!”

When Jen bought her new house, she did it with one purpose in mind — to give her rescue dog, Maggie, a place to call home. Sadly, Maggie passed away before she ever got the chance to live there.

After allowing herself time to grieve, Jen made a heartfelt decision. Instead of letting the house remain quiet, she chose to honor Maggie’s memory by opening her home to foster dogs in need.

Welcoming Snickers

Soon after, Jen welcomed her first foster pup, Snickers, into the house. Snickers came from the same rescue where Maggie had been adopted, which made the moment even more meaningful.

From the start, Snickers showed excitement about meeting Jen and eagerly went home with her. Although the sweet pittie bonded with her foster mom right away, she needed more time to feel comfortable in her new environment.

Learning That the World Is Safe

At first, Snickers felt anxious and overwhelmed by unfamiliar sights and sounds. Everyday noises frightened her, and she struggled to relax.

However, Jen stayed patient through every step of the process. Little by little, she helped Snickers understand that the world outside the shelter wasn’t as scary as it seemed.

Over time, Snickers began adjusting. Each day, she calmed herself more quickly whenever something startled her.

An Unexpected Moment

Just over a week after leaving the shelter, Snickers faced a new experience. While she rested nearby, Jen’s mom began playing the piano.

Naturally, Jen expected Snickers to panic. After all, loud or unfamiliar sounds usually scared her. This time, however, Snickers surprised everyone.

Instead of reacting with fear, she watched with curiosity.

Finding Comfort in Music

Slowly, Snickers approached the piano and gently rested her head against it. As she felt the vibrations, she remained calm and relaxed.

Rather than shrinking away, she seemed to realize that if the humans around her felt safe, then she could feel safe too.

Before long, something incredible happened.

A Small But Powerful Change

As the music continued, Snickers wagged her tail — something she hadn’t done once since arriving at her foster home.

That simple moment marked a turning point. The piano helped Snickers open up, and both Jen and her mom felt emotional watching her begin to trust the world again.

Ready for Her Next Chapter

Eventually, the time came for Snickers to return to the shelter. Thanks to the patience, care, and confidence Jen helped build, people quickly noticed what a special dog she truly was.

As a result, Snickers gained more adoption interest than ever before.

Now, she’s one step closer to finding her forever family. And while she may move on, she will always carry the lessons her foster mom taught her — that love, patience, and kindness can make even the scariest world feel safe.
