One morning in Houston, Texas, Kristin Erwin was driving her son to speech therapy when she noticed a creature moving in a leafy ditch. At first, she couldnโt quite make out what it was.
“I wasnโt sure what I was looking at,” Erwin recounted.
As she got closer, Erwin realized the animal was actually a dog in distress. Without hesitation, she pulled over and gently tried to coax the dog towards her. After some effort, she managed to lift the frightened pup into her van.
“She was incredibly nervous and timid,” Erwin observed. “It was clear she craved attention and was very friendly.”
Once she brought the dog home, Erwin set about finding her owner. She checked for a microchip and posted on local community pages, but no one came forward. So, Erwin named her Maddie and began providing the care she needed. Aside from a minor leg injury, Maddie was in good health, and the vet treated her cut, which healed quickly.
In just a week, Maddie’s anxiety diminished significantly. Erwinโs other dogs and her son played a big role in helping her settle in.
โShe now eats with everyone, and having other dogs and our child around has really helped her relax,โ Erwin noted.
Erwin has enjoyed discovering Maddieโs delightful personality. Since joining her family, Maddie has developed a love for toys and treats, which have further eased her transition.
Erwin also reached out to Paddyโs Paws, an animal rescue in Wisconsin, which agreed to help Maddie find a forever home. With her sweet nature, itโs no surprise that Maddie has already attracted interest from potential adopters. It wonโt be long before she finds a permanent, loving home.
